The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has strongly advised political stakeholders supporting President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general elections to prioritize securing victory at the grassroots level in their respective wards, local governments, and states. Wike conveyed this charge on Saturday during a media interaction following an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja. He firmly dismissed any speculation about his interest in becoming the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, emphasizing that electoral success is fundamentally built from the grassroots.

According to the minister, a politician's true influence is demonstrated by their ability to win their home base. “Every politics is local. If you cannot deliver the president in your state, how will you say you want an election? If you lose your own state, even if you’re DG, you’ll be ashamed,” Wike stated. He underscored that campaign titles are far less significant than actual electoral performance, highlighting that the primary goal should be to deliver votes. He further recounted instances where previous presidential campaign directors-general failed to secure victories in their own states, citing prominent figures like former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong as examples.
