2027 Presidential Race Heats Up: Agada Emerges YPP Candidate!

Architect Peter Aveda has officially emerged as the presidential candidate for the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Aveda secured this position following the party’s substitution presidential primary, where he garnered significant support. Out of 83 votes cast, Aveda received 71 votes, with only 12 delegates opposing his candidature, thus cementing his nomination.

The announcement was made by Barr. Vidiyeno H. Bamaiyi, the party’s national secretary and returning officer for the substitution primary, who confirmed Agada's duly nominated status as the YPP presidential candidate. This declaration sets the stage for Aveda's campaign leading up to the critical 2027 elections.

In his acceptance speech, Peter Aveda emphasized that his emergence transcended personal ambition, framing it as a mandate for millions of Nigerians currently facing severe socio-economic challenges. He specifically highlighted the widespread issues of poverty, pervasive food insecurity, internal displacement, high unemployment rates, and general insecurity plaguing the nation. Aveda drew attention to the increasing number of Nigerians living below the poverty line, those requiring urgent food assistance during the projected 2026 lean season, the significant population of internally displaced persons, and the countless young Nigerians entering the labor market with inadequate opportunities for employment.

Aveda stated his acceptance of the mandate was driven by the Nigerian populace's weariness with abandoned projects, insufficient electricity supply, persistent hunger, unchecked insecurity, and a political system that frequently prioritizes narrow political considerations over genuine competence and effective performance. He passionately described the YPP as a party fundamentally built on ideas, clear ideology, and a strong commitment to delivery, asserting that its platform is uniquely positioned to elevate competence and capacity to the forefront of national leadership.

Unveiling his comprehensive campaign agenda, Peter Aveda articulated his unwavering commitment to Nigeria, encapsulated by his innovative approach termed “governance with GPS.” He explained that his administration, if elected, would not merely manage the superficial effects of poverty but would instead meticulously focus on identifying and addressing its deep-rooted causes. This strategic focus aims to provide sustainable solutions to the nation’s most pressing challenges.
