Wicked Soundtrack Bewitches ARIA Chart, Dominating Music Landscape!

The Australian music scene witnessed a vibrant week on the ARIA Charts, highlighted by the magical debut of the Wicked: For Good soundtrack, which soared to No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. This highly anticipated sequel follows the success of the original Wicked soundtrack, which peaked at No. 3 in December 2024 and impressively rebounded from No. 30 to No. 15 on the latest chart.
Featuring 11 new tracks with vocals from co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the soundtrack includes standout songs like “Every Day More Wicked,” “Wonderful,” and the closing track, “For Good.” This milestone marks Ariana Grande’s sixth ARIA No. 1, adding to her chart-topping albums including My Everything (2014), Dangerous Woman (2016), Sweetener (2018), Thank U, Next (2019), and Eternal Sunshine (2024). For Cynthia Erivo, this represents her inaugural appearance at the top of the Australian chart.
Beyond the theatrical magic, several other notable entries enriched the ARIA Albums Chart. Australian pop-punk band SoSo made a strong debut with So Much For Second Chances, landing at No. 4, with the band expressing pride in their 'SoSo Crew.' Produced by Stevie Knight, known for his work with Yours Truly and Stand Atlantic, SoSo is already hinting at more new music. Melbourne rockers The Smith Street Band secured their ninth top 50 album with Once I Was Wild, debuting at No. 14.
Close behind, at No. 16, the debut EP Afterglow from pop-punk outfit Midnight Til Morning captured attention. Formed during the Netflix competition series Building The Band, the group achieved international acclaim with sold-out shows across North America, the U.K., Europe, and Australia. Managed by Michael Chugg’s Chugg Music, the band continues to rise in prominence.
The enduring legacy of The Beatles was celebrated with the fourth installment of their Anthology series entering the chart at No. 20, joining previous chart-topping successes: Anthology 1 (No. 1, 1995), Anthology 2 (No. 2, 1996), and Anthology 3 (No. 3, 1996). The complete Anthology Collection debuted at No. 32, contributing to The Beatles’ impressive 14 ARIA No. 1 albums.
On the ARIA Singles Chart, Olivia Dean maintained her dominant position with “Man I Need,” holding the top spot for a second consecutive week. Her former No. 1 album, The Art of Loving, also climbed from No. 4 to No. 2 on the albums chart. Other singles including “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” (up 5-4), “Nice To Each Other” (up 9-8), and “Let Alone The One You Love” (up 36-25) reached new peak positions.
The top debut on the singles chart this week belonged to K-pop sensation Stray Kids, whose track “Do It” entered at No. 10, marking the group’s best Australian chart performance. Canadian singer Tate McRae also achieved a top 20 debut with “Nobody’s Girl” at No. 19. Meanwhile, Tame Impala’s “Dracula” fell from No. 28 to No. 33, making them the sole homegrown artist in the top 50, highlighting a dynamic and internationally influenced week on the ARIA Charts.
