A section of MPs from the Western region have accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of promoting tribal politics.

The leaders claimed that Gachagu was threatening the peace of the country and praised President William Ruto for uniting Kenyans.

Speaking during a women's empowerment event in Ikolomani, the leaders, led by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, said Ruto’s inclusive and development agenda would earn him a second term.

“We have made up our minds—come what may, the President of the Republic of Kenya in 2027 will be William Samoei Ruto,” declared Aseka, saying that the region would not support any leader fanning tribal politics.

He further questioned the absence of key opposition figures at the launch of Gachagua’s the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), terming it a silent protest against what he described as an ethnically driven political vehicle.

Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet also weighed in, urging Kenyans to dismiss the newly formed party.

He accused Gachagua of inciting Kenyans with reckless 2027 remarks. “Any individual who claims to be a leader yet threatens the nation's peace is an enemy of the country,” he said.

Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali claimed that Gachagua’s has not been touring Western to seek support of residents. “For two years, Gachagua never set foot here, but President Ruto has been with us,” said Shinali.

Teso South MP Mary Emase, Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, Nambale MP Geoffrey Mulanya, and Vihiga’s Beatrice Adagala echoed the leaders sentiments.

They affirmed the region’s commitment to national unity and declared that they would not return to the opposition. “We are not ready to go back to the opposition,” declared Mulanya.

The statements come amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Elections, with emerging parties and shifting loyalties.
