Wedding Chaos: Groomsman Opens Fire Over Meatballs Dispute
A Milwaukee wedding reception descended into gunfire after a groomsman allegedly shot two people following a dispute over eating meatballs. Police are searching for Thomas Redrick Williams, who is wanted on multiple charges including reckless injury and bail jumping, as the community grapples with the shocking violence.
A recent wedding celebration in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, tragically spiraled into chaos and gunfire, leaving two people injured. Prosecutors allege the shocking incident began with a dispute over a groomsman, identified as 41-year-old Thomas Redrick Williams, sloppily eating meatballs with his hands. Police are now actively searching for Williams, who is accused of shooting and injuring two attendees at the reception before fleeing the scene.
The altercation occurred on June 20 at the Aria Business Center in Milwaukee. According to a criminal complaint, the confrontation was sparked in the kitchen when the bride’s cousin observed Williams helping himself to meatballs without using a plate or cutlery. She reportedly challenged him, suggesting he use proper utensils, which quickly escalated the exchange.
What began as a verbal disagreement rapidly turned physical. Police reports indicate that Williams allegedly punched the woman after she confronted him. Her brother-in-law then intervened as the argument intensified, attempting to de-escalate the situation. However, prosecutors allege that Williams subsequently pulled out a gun and opened fire during the confrontation.
The gunfire resulted in injuries to two people. The woman who initially challenged Williams sustained gunshot wounds to her arm and leg, while her brother-in-law was struck in the back of the neck. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and fortunately survived their injuries.
Witnesses, including the bride, reported seeing the shooting unfold. As Williams attempted to leave, the bride reportedly followed him outside, confronting him beside his car. In an effort to prevent his escape, she bravely grabbed his key fob. This act, at least partially successful, caused Williams to abandon the vehicle and flee the scene on foot.
Police later searched the car, which was registered to Williams’ wife, and recovered a Taurus 9mm handgun. His wife informed officers that they had attended the wedding together and that Williams had dropped her at home before returning with her car. Authorities also revealed that Williams was already out on bond in a separate, unrelated case when the shooting occurred, highlighting a history of legal troubles.
A warrant has since been issued for Williams’ arrest. He faces serious charges, including reckless injury with use of a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and bail jumping. As of Monday, June 30, jail records indicated he had not yet been taken into custody. Local residents expressed shock and dismay that a wedding, a day meant for celebration, had ended in such a violent display, with one resident telling WISN 12 News, “For a wedding to be shot up like that is ridiculous.”
