Warrior Nation Roars: Steph Curry Cleared for Lakers Season Opener!
Stephen Curry is expected to be available for the Golden State Warriors' season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, despite tweaking his right ankle in a recent scrimmage. The Warriors face other significant injury concerns, with key players like Moses Moody, Jimmy Butler III, and Kristaps Porzingis sidelined, and Brandin Podziemski questionable.
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is anticipated to play in Wednesday night's season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, despite having tweaked his right ankle during a Sunday afternoon open scrimmage. Warriors coach Steve Kerr confirmed Curry's availability, stating that the guard was a full participant in Monday morning's practice and assured him he was "fine" shortly after the incident.
The ankle twist occurred midway through the scrimmage when Curry rolled his ankle on a dribble move from the right wing. He immediately stopped playing, expressed discomfort, and limped off to the locker room, causing concern among teammates and fans present. He did not return to the scrimmage.
However, Curry's ankle responded favorably overnight, leading the medical staff to clear him for his final preparations for the regular season. He is expected to participate in another practice on Tuesday before suiting up against the Lakers. This incident comes as Curry, who will turn 39 in March, has been proactively managing his physical condition. Over the summer, he reconfigured his training routine to better address a persistent right knee issue that led him to miss 27 games last season. The Warriors have been cautious with his preseason minutes and, according to Coach Kerr, plan to reduce his practice workload to ease his overall strain.
Curry's potential minor setback adds to an already challenging injury landscape for the Warriors. The team is currently without starting wings Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler III, both of whom are rehabbing serious knee injuries and are not expected to return until midseason. Additionally, starting center Kristaps Porzingis is sidelined indefinitely due to a private health issue and will not travel with the team to Los Angeles. Starting guard Brandin Podziemski also missed Monday's practice due to lower back tightness, making him questionable for the highly anticipated opener.
