WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons Tipped for Tenth Title

Former Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has expressed strong confidence in the Nigerian national women's football team, backing them to clinch the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. The Super Falcons, who are record nine-time champions of the tournament, are set to compete among 12 formidable teams in Morocco next month, aiming for their tenth continental crown.

Waldrum's endorsement comes with a unique perspective, as he was at the helm when the Super Falcons participated in the previous edition of the competition, also hosted by Morocco, where they finished in fourth place. His successor and former assistant, Justine Madugu, is now leading the team into the upcoming tournament. Coach Madugu has notably retained a significant core of the squad, with 13 players from the team Waldrum managed in Morocco in 2022 making the current selection.

According to Waldrum, the Super Falcons possess more than enough quality and talent to emerge victorious. He emphasized that the foundation built from their performances in recent major tournaments, including the World Cup and the Olympics, provides a solid base for success. "I think the players are good enough on their own that they can win it. I think there's enough talent there based off what was built from the World Cup and the Olympics," Waldrum conveyed to Eagles Tracker. He further added, "Those players will find a way to get the result because they're hungry to go regain the title." This sentiment highlights the team's potential and their strong desire to reclaim their dominance in African women's football.
