JAMB Raises Alarm Over Low UTME Mop-Up Participation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed grave concern regarding the alarmingly low number of candidates who have printed their examination notification slips for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exercise. This crucial examination is slated for Saturday, June 28, 2025.
According to statements issued by JAMB's spokesman and Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board initially advised 96,838 candidates to print their examination notification slips starting from Monday, June 23. However, as of Friday, June 27, only 12,442 out of the 98,232 scheduled candidates had printed their slips. This reflects a mere 12.6% participation rate, leaving a significant majority of approximately 85,790 candidates yet to secure their required authorization.
The mop-up examination is a critical opportunity designed to accommodate various categories of candidates. These include 5,096 spill-over candidates, those who experienced biometric verification issues during the main examination, and a special dispensation for 91,742 candidates who were absent from either the main or resit examinations conducted after the 2025 technical error. It also covers candidates who missed both previous examinations for any reason. In total, 96,838 candidates are expected to participate across 183 centres nationwide.
