JAMB Announces UTME Re-Sit Exams

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a mop-up examination for candidates who missed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, stated that this mop-up opportunity will be extended to candidates who missed the main exam for various reasons.
According to Oloyede, approximately 5.6% to 6% of candidates missed the initial examination. The decision to conduct another mop-up exam aims to accommodate all candidates who were absent, addressing concerns and challenges encountered during the 2025 UTME exercise. This announcement was made during a meeting with key stakeholders in Abuja on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
Professor Oloyede emphasized that this measure is not extraordinary but a standard practice to ensure that students who miss an examination due to unforeseen circumstances have an opportunity to make it up. JAMB aims to prevent any abuse of this provision while ensuring that all affected candidates can participate in the mop-up examination.
In related news, JAMB's spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, announced that the results of candidates who sat for the rescheduled UTME would be released on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Earlier, it was reported that 379,997 candidates in Lagos and the five states of the South-East were affected by UTME glitches.
The South East Caucus in the House of Representatives has reacted to the 2025 UTME errors, calling for the cancellation of the examination and the resignation of Professor Oloyede. They believe his resignation would facilitate an independent review and the suspension of key JAMB officials involved in the reported glitches.
