Viral Sensation: £22 Product Sparks 'Fat Jab' Debate with Incredible Waist-Trimming Results

Anniki, a 52-year-old mother of two primary-aged girls, openly shares her personal struggles with body confidence, particularly regarding a "middle-aged tummy bulge." This issue, which surfaced around her 50th birthday, has made her self-conscious for the past couple of years, diminishing her passion for fashion and shopping. Despite a rigorous daily exercise routine encompassing cardio, weightlifting, and sit-up workouts, the stubborn fat around her midriff persists. Anniki's experience is far from isolated; a recent survey revealed that 42 percent of women identify their tummy as the area they feel most self-conscious about, surpassing concerns about faces, legs, chests, and arms.
In her quest for a solution, Anniki has considered drastic measures like weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro and Ozempic. However, navigating the hormonal shifts of menopause makes her wary of introducing relatively unknown drugs into her system, noting that some friends who have used them experienced unintended aging effects on their faces despite significant weight loss. Her past attempts at finding a quick fix through "miracle" buys have also led to disappointment. Supportive knickers designed to flatten the tummy would invariably roll down, creating an awkward fat bulge beneath her bra, while special tummy-support tights proved too cumbersome and ineffective. Dietary changes, including intermittent fasting and altering macronutrient intake, also yielded no noticeable difference.
The turning point arrived after a particularly disheartening experience at a work event, where a clingy high street jumper made her tummy appear "like an over-stuffed school bag." This prompted her to explore a new potential "confidence-building staple": the TikTok-famous River Island ruched side T-shirt, priced at £22. This garment has garnered online praise for its flattering qualities, with claims of cinching the waist and creating a more defined silhouette.
Upon receiving the T-shirt, Anniki was immediately impressed by its flattering shape, substantial quality, and 100 percent cotton composition, especially considering its affordable price. A TikTok influencer had highlighted its design, noting its asymmetric front and shorter back, which reportedly makes it "super flattering if you’re curvier." Sceptically, she tried it on. Her initial reaction was overwhelmingly positive: her waist appeared slimmer, and her silhouette from the side remarkably reminded her of her pre-children self. The ruching at the sides effectively created the illusion of a more svelte waist, expertly concealing any "lumps or bumps" and making her feel noticeably "tucked in."
The T-shirt imbued Anniki with a sense of youthful vitality and a feeling of being more "put together," as if she had made a conscious effort with her appearance. She paired the top with her favourite barrel-leg blue denim jeans for maximum confidence. While the red colour was initially a minor drawback, as she typically avoids such bold hues, she found herself willing to overlook it as a trade-off for the enhanced self-esteem. She also noted the availability of black and white versions, which would serve as versatile basics. Though she wouldn't claim the top made her drop a dress size, it undeniably gave her waist a more defined look.
Anniki's newfound confidence was soon put to the test. Stepping out for the morning school run, initially with a "chunky cropped jacket" to assuage her shyness, she observed that her daughters, Greta (six) and Rae (12), did not comment on her change. Later, meeting a friend at a café, she received the first unsolicited compliment. Her friend exclaimed, "You look different," then, after a closer look, asked, "You look like you’ve lost weight, are you on the... you know what?" referring to weight-loss jabs. Anniki attributed the change to the red colour, but her friend insisted, "No, it’s something else, it’s this top, isn’t it? It’s really flattering on you."
Later that day, without a coat for the afternoon school run, Greta commented, "Mummy, you look smart." The positive feedback continued into the evening when her partner, Paul (58), who rarely notices her clothing, inquired if something had changed. Even at the gym, a regular attendee remarked, "Those workouts are definitely working for you!" These compliments profoundly uplifted Anniki. The T-shirt, while not entirely erasing her tummy, provided her with a feeling she hadn't experienced in years: she felt "like me again." For Anniki, this sense of renewed self-identity and confidence was, ultimately, "more than enough."
