Matthew Needham has been officially cast as the voice of the Joker in “Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2, a reveal made at San Diego Comic-Con. The animated noir series, featuring Hamish Linklater as Batman and Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, is set to premiere its 10-episode second season on Amazon Prime Video on July 31. A companion video game, “Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles,” will also launch on the same date.
“Batman: Caped Crusader” has officially unmasked its Joker for Season 2, with “House of the Dragon” star Matthew Needham taking on the iconic villain's voice. This revelation was made at San Diego Comic-Con, where Needham joined fellow cast members Hamish Linklater (Batman) and Jamie Chung (Harley Quinn), along with executive producers James Tucker and Geoffrey Thorne, on a panel. The announcement follows the Clown Prince of Crime's tease at the end of Season 1, for which John DiMaggio (also the voice of Detective Harvey Bullock) was credited.
During the SDCC panel, attendees were treated to a first-look image of Needham’s version of the Joker and a world premiere screening of the Season 2 premiere episode. Needham is now the latest actor to portray Batman’s arch-nemesis, following notable performances from the likes of Mark Hamill, Troy Baker, Richard Epcar, and John DiMaggio. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC Studios, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho, and is a reimagining of Batman's earliest years as he wages a one-man war on crime in Gotham City, characterized by its noir-inspired animated style.
The 10-episode second season of “Batman: Caped Crusader” is slated to drop on Amazon Prime Video on July 31. The animated series, which originally launched in 2024, hails from executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and legendary Batman animator Bruce Timm, in addition to James Tucker, Geoffrey Thorne, Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register. The extensive ensemble voice cast for Season 2 also includes Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, Jason Watkins, Gary Anthony Williams, Ronan Raftery, Wunmi Mosaku, Laraine Newman, Grey DeLisle, John DiMaggio, Zach Hoffman, William Salyers, Josh Brener, Bumper Robinson, Cedric Yarbrough, Tom Kenny, Roger Craig Smith, Blythe Melin, Fryda Wolff, Kevin Michael Richardson, Juliet Donenfeld, and Robin Atkin Downes.
Adding to the excitement, Amazon’s gaming arm, Luna, screened the trailer for its upcoming “Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles” video game. This companion game is also scheduled to launch on July 31, accessible via the Luna app. Matthew Needham will reprise his role as the Joker in the game, with Hamish Linklater and Michelle C. Bonilla also confirmed to be returning for the gaming adaptation.
