Trust Wallet Quashes Fears, Dispelling Speculation Over PHP Exploit Fallout

Web3 market leaders have launched a coordinated information campaign to reassure investors during a widespread internet security crisis. This effort followed intense speculation after the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA Cyber) issued an urgent warning regarding critical vulnerabilities in PHP.

Specifically, two critical flaws, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, were discovered in the core of PHP, enabling unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE) by hackers. Given that a significant portion of the classic internet, including WordPress platforms and systems running PHP-FPM, relies on PHP, millions of web resources were immediately put at risk. PHP developers quickly released security patches (versions 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, and 8.2.35) to address these issues, but the alarm had already spread, particularly impacting the cryptocurrency sector, where users are highly sensitive to infrastructure risks and potential ripple effects from such incidents.

Amidst this growing concern, the team behind Trust Wallet, a major cryptocurrency wallet, officially declared the complete security of its infrastructure. Through an official statement on X, Trust Wallet clarified that its applications and core infrastructure do not utilize PHP, thereby ensuring its clients are unaffected by the critical PHP Shell vulnerability. This proactive move was taken to dispel rumors and eliminate speculation, highlighting that the technology stack of decentralized wallets is isolated from the PHP architecture.

Other prominent Web3 entities also made similar statements. Representatives from BNB Chain and the decentralized exchange PancakeSwap had previously issued confirmations that their ecosystems do not incorporate PHP. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) acknowledged the situation, publishing a series of posts emphasizing that most projects should provide such assurances. He argued that silence during global IT outages can fuel false rumors and create panic among users, reinforcing the need for transparent communication.

Despite the reassurances from major Web3 players regarding the PHP vulnerability, a lingering threat to cryptocurrency holders remains. Phishers are likely to exploit the news surrounding the security incident, potentially sending out malicious "security updates" to trick users. Therefore, vigilance and caution are still paramount for users in the digital asset space.
