Third-party insurance enforcement not to make money, police warned

The Commissioner of Police Kogi State Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, has warned his men and officers not to make the enforcement of the third-party insurance policy a money making exercise.

CP Dantawaye insists that the law enforcement agency must be professional, transparent and honest in carrying out the exercise.

The CP gave the warning while briefing members of the Command’s Management Team, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Sectional Heads, members of the Inspectors and Non-Commissioned Officers in his office.

Police spokesman, SP William Ovye, said “The CP further emphasized that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has mandated all Officers to carry out enforcement operations with integrity and high level of professionalism.

“The CP urged them not to carry out the exercise as a money-making venture, stressing that the primary objective is to protect public interest, and ensure total compliance with traffic Laws, and educate road users on their rights and responsibilities regarding vehicle insurance Policy.

“While delivering his lecture, the State Coordinator, Retail Insured Family (an Insurance company), Mr Addi Onimisi Abdulfatai, commended the Inspector General of Police for his efforts to ensure strict adherence to the provision of Third-Party Insurance Policy.

“The session aimed to equip Officers with the necessary knowledge to guide motorists accurately and to avoid conflicts during enforcement operations.”

The CP addressed concerns raised by the public about harassment during Third-Party insurance enforcement.

He warned officers against unprofessional conduct and stressed that any reported abuse would attract severe disciplinary action.
