Reason for National Security Raid on Ex-BoG Governor's Home Revealed

Security expert Col. Festus Boahen Aboagye (rtd) has made a startling revelation regarding the residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana. According to Col. Aboagye, monitoring devices were discovered at Dr. Addison's residence, connected to the Central Bank via cables. This raises significant questions about potential unauthorized surveillance.

Speaking on TV3's "The Key Points" on March 22, 2025, Col. Aboagye stated, "He had wired his place with what we call backdoor electronic devices. There are devices in this house, wired to the Bank of Ghana, which enables you to monitor what goes on in the bank. In fact, monitoring is a very diplomatic word. This is spying, this is surveillance, and the state has not authorised anybody in the form of a former Bank of Ghana Governor to mount surveillance on the premises of the Bank of Ghana."

Col. Aboagye emphasized that the intelligence regarding these devices prompted the operation conducted by National Security Operatives on March 19, 2025, at Dr. Addison's home. The objective was to retrieve these unauthorized devices. He further explained, "That was the intelligence that the state had. And as the Deputy Attorney General explained, they needed a plan to go. So the wires that we saw were the wires into the device. As far as I'm concerned, that was the objective of that search."

The timing of these revelations is noteworthy, as Dr. Addison tendered an early resignation, two months before his expected retirement in March. Col. Aboagye questioned the continued presence of these devices, stating, "His retirement was this March but he is no longer serving at the Bank of Ghana so he should have disconnected those devices. Why was he still having them?"

While the Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has asserted that the search was lawfully conducted, the discovery of CCTV cameras connected to the Bank of Ghana at the former governor's residence has fueled concerns about potential breaches of security and privacy. The implications of this situation are currently under scrutiny.
