The Studio begins as Matt Remick is promoted as the new head of Continental Studios. He quickly learns that being the head of a studio is not an easy task. "I love movies, but now I have this fear that my job is to ruin them," he says in the trailer.

His job has him trying to make films that can be considered art, while still making a profit, despite being told every step of the way how impossible that is. Sometimes, he gets to work with directors like Martin Scorsese or Ron Howard, even if that means telling them to cut part of their film. Other times, he has to figure out how to create a big-budget franchise based around the Kool-Aid Man.

'The Studio' Review: Seth Rogen's Ode to the Miserable Business of Making Great Movies

'The Studio' is a genuinely funny and brilliantly directed TV show, one of the few projects that tries to be clever and is.

Matt has many people by his side. The former studio executive, Patty, gives him advice, although it's not always uplifting. The others under him with talents in producing and marketing try to help him, but sometimes just bring controversial topics into play for Continental Studios, such as AI. While tackling these issues, Matt still has to talk to reporters and deal with upcoming events like awards season.

The series is also creative with its storytelling. The second episode, "The Oner," is about Sarah Polley trying to capture a long but perfect shot and thus is filmed to look like the episode was done in one, long shot. The Studio also uses handheld shots to capture the kinetic energy of Matt's frantic life, all while still capturing a classic Hollywood feeling.

Many critics have loved The Studio for its satirical plots. Matt Mahler of MovieWeb said, "The Studio is the rare project that tries incredibly hard to be clever and, well, is." In a review for The Hollywood Reporter, Annie Han praised the cringe humor and wrote that "for those willing to get on its frazzled wavelength, this is a strong contender for the best new comedy of 2025."

Seth Rogen leads the cast of Apple TV+'s new comedy as Matt Remick, the new head of the fictional Continental Studios. He's given the position by Bryan Cranston, CEO of the studio, who plays a character named Griffin Mill (the same name as the studio executive in The Player, another Hollywood satire). Matt is also close with a former studio executive, Patty, who's played by the always-funny Catherine O'Hara.

Matt has a few people working underneath him. While Matt aspires to be like Patty, Quinn (played by Chase Sui Wonders) aspires to be like him. Marketing chief Maya, played by Kathryn Hahn, tries to keep up on trends for the studio. Ike Barinholtz plays the vice president of production, Sal Seperstein, who's not always the most serious.

The series also has a load of guest stars, mostly playing themselves. As a studio executive, Matt has to meet with many Hollywood players, including real-life directors like Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Olivia Wilde, Nicholas Stoller, Sarah Polley, and Peter Berg. He works with actors on set, such as Zac Efron, Paul Dano, Greta Lee, Charlize Theron, Dave Franco, Zoë Kravitz, Ramy Youssef, Anthony Mackie, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Scott. Johnny Knoxville and Josh Hutcherson star in a fictional movie for Matt's studio as well, titled Duhpocalypse. Matt even has to deal with other Hollywood players, like entertainment journalists such as Matthew Belloni, who plays himself in the series.
