President Mahama Cautions Youth Against Reckless Okada Riding During Eid

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong caution to Muslim youth against reckless motorcycle riding and driving during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Speaking at the Black Star Square in Accra on March 31, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the importance of safety and responsible behavior during this festive period.

President Mahama highlighted that Eid-ul-Fitr should be a time of unity and joy, not one marred by dangerous activities. He specifically addressed the issue of reckless driving, stating that it poses a significant threat to lives and undermines the spirit of the celebration. "Ramadan is a period of togetherness, not recklessness," he asserted, urging young people to celebrate responsibly and avoid actions that could lead to tragic outcomes.

Acknowledging past incidents of needless loss of life due to reckless motorcycle riding and driving during Ramadan, President Mahama reiterated his firm stance against such behavior. He confirmed that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take decisive action against offenders to prevent accidents and ensure public safety. "In the past, we have witnessed the needless loss of lives due to reckless motorcycle riding and driving, which is often associated with the Ramadan celebration. I urge our brothers who engage in this to stop," he cautioned.

President Mahama underscored that violations of traffic laws would not be tolerated, reinforcing his directive to the police to enforce the regulations strictly. Beyond the immediate concerns about road safety, President Mahama called on all Ghanaians to embody the values of compassion and generosity that are central to the spirit of Eid. He urged citizens to remember and support the vulnerable members of their communities during this time of reflection and giving.

"As we mark the end of Ramadan, let us not forget the vulnerable in our communities. This is a time for reflection, kindness, and support. We must look out for those who are struggling and extend a helping hand," he stated, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility. He further encouraged religious and community leaders to lead by example in promoting these values.

President Mahama's message served as a reminder that Eid-ul-Fitr is not only a religious holiday but also an opportunity to strengthen community bonds and support those in need, while prioritizing safety and responsible behavior.
