Lagos Independence Bridge to be Closed for Repairs

Lagos, Nigeria – The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina bound) in Lagos, effective April 1st, for essential maintenance and rehabilitation. This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha.
According to the statement, the bridge will remain closed until the end of May 2025, a period of over a year. The closure is expected to cause significant traffic disruptions for commuters traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan, specifically impacting traffic bound for Zone 2.
Mrs. Kesha has advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and seek alternative routes to mitigate potential traffic congestion during the extensive repair period. She also extended an apology for any inconvenience the closure may cause, while appealing to the public for understanding and cooperation as the government undertakes these critical infrastructure repairs to ensure the long-term safety and stability of the bridge.
