At just 17 years old, Eniola Osabiya has emerged as a prominent full-stack developer within the dynamic Nigerian tech ecosystem. His journey into the world of coding began uniquely at the age of 12 when his church hosted a three-day boot camp designed to introduce teenagers to programming. While many of his peers viewed it as another routine church activity, Eniola recognized a significant opportunity, immersing himself in the craft. This foundational experience, which included building a library management system, ignited a passion that has driven him to dedicate 95 percent of his spare time to honing his skills and becoming proficient in his field.

Eniola's early days of learning to code were far from straightforward. Lacking the most essential tool—a personal computer—he had to rely on the generosity of others who owned PCs. This dependency, coupled with the absence of a supportive community of tech-oriented teenagers after the boot camp, posed considerable challenges. He often felt isolated, being "almost the only person that knew how to program," which he admits could be discouraging at times without like-minded individuals to collaborate with or share experiences.

Recognizing this significant gap, Eniola took proactive steps to foster a community for young tech enthusiasts. In January of the previous year, he co-founded GenZTechies, a platform initially conceived as a simple WhatsApp group to connect with other young programmers. What started as an informal gathering for "meaningful decisions" quickly evolved into a structured community as its membership grew. Now thriving on Slack, GenZTechies boasts over 750 members, primarily Gen-Zers passionate about technology. While the initial intent was to require portfolios to ensure commitment, the community ultimately became open to accommodate a backlog of interested individuals, including aspiring young founders who are actively seeking funding for their ventures.

Despite his impressive accomplishments and a rapidly developing skill set, Eniola remains pragmatic about his long-term career path. He confesses that he hasn't definitively committed to tech as a lifelong career. His motivation stems from a natural inclination towards computers and laptops, finding joy and independence in building software. Instead of a traditional career, Eniola's sights are firmly set on entrepreneurship. He envisions himself as a "startup founder," aiming to establish his own ventures and diversify his interests across various domains. He is particularly keen on developing solutions in areas like education and social good, and is currently working on FrelaPay, a product designed to monitor productivity.

Navigating the professional landscape, particularly in Nigeria, has presented its own set of challenges. Eniola recounts an instance where he worked for a company for two months without receiving payment during his probationary period, attributing this exploitation to his young age. However, he finds immense satisfaction in the act of creation—building solutions and successfully resolving bugs. The experience of receiving his first payment for a job solidified his dedication. While working at a young age often invites doubts about experience, Eniola asserts that these concerns dissipate once he starts delivering tangible solutions and making valuable contributions.

Eniola has also made unconventional educational choices, opting to take a gap year from university, where he intended to study computer science. This decision, subtly communicated to his parents, was aimed at allowing him more time to work. It serendipitously proved advantageous as Nigerian universities have been on strike since February. Though his parents frequently remind him about the importance of academics, Eniola is currently prioritizing his practical experience.

Looking ahead, Eniola is focused on the upcoming hackathon planned by GenZTechies for July. He advises other Gen Z aspiring to enter the tech field to prioritize consistency over immediate financial gains. With several projects and solutions currently in development, Eniola Osabiya is poised to make a significant impact, confidently stating that the world can expect his work to become "the next big thing in the startup space in a few days."
