Super Eagles Star Stanley Nwabali Dumps Chippa United in Shock Move

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially concluded his four-year tenure with South African club Chippa United. The club confirmed his departure in a statement released on Thursday, acknowledging that the 29-year-old formally requested to leave, despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024. Chippa United accepted Nwabali’s request, granting him a release and extending their best wishes for the next phase of his career. The statement conveyed the club's sincere gratitude, stating, "We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated."
In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Nwabali bid farewell to the club and its supporters, writing, "I leave with a heart full of gratitude… this isn’t just a farewell; it’s an appreciation for every moment you’ve given me." Nwabali originally joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United in the Nigeria Premier Football League. Throughout his time with the club, he made over 70 appearances across all competitions, with one source specifying 76 appearances and 25 clean sheets, and was named team captain in 2024, demonstrating his significant role within the team.
Nwabali's impressive performances at Chippa United also served as a springboard for his international career. He rose to prominence on the international stage, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles following his standout displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a pivotal role in Nigeria's third-place finish. While neither Nwabali nor Chippa United have disclosed his next destination, reports suggest potential moves to other clubs in the South African Premier Soccer League, as well as possible interest from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia, as he now becomes a free agent.
