in Balasore, Odisha, has suffered 95% burn injuries after setting herself ablaze on her college campus, allegedly due to prolonged by her and inaction from the college authorities.

The student, enrolled in the integrated B.Ed programme at Fakir Mohan College, had lodged a formal complaint on July 1, accusing her head of department, Samir Kumar Sahu, of repeatedly demanding sexual favours and threatening to ruin her future if she refused.

Despite assurances of action within seven days, no steps were taken.

On Saturday, during a student protest at the college gate, the victim reportedly ran toward a building near the principal’s office, poured petrol on herself, and set herself on fire.

A fellow student who attempted to rescue her sustained 70% burns in the process.

A disturbing video shows the woman engulfed in flames, running through a corridor while bystanders scramble to help.

The principal later confirmed she had spoken with both the student and the accused earlier that day, and both had stuck to their statements.

Following the incident, authorities arrested the teacher and suspended both him and the college principal.

Odisha’s Higher Education Minister confirmed that strict action would be taken. Investigations are ongoing, with police collecting evidence from the scene.

Both the woman and the student who tried to save her are currently receiving treatment.
