Startup Power Play: BasharSoft Acquires iCareer, Forging Career Services Giant

In a landmark consolidation within Egypt’s employment technology sector, BasharSoft — the company behind leading job platforms Wuzzuf and Forasna — has fully acquired iCareer, a career development and HR consultancy startup. The deal, which also encompasses Recruitera, Egypt’s first applicant tracking software, marks a major milestone in BasharSoft’s mission to create a unified digital ecosystem for employment, career guidance, and talent development.

Founded in 2009 by Mohamed El Garhy and Ameer Sherif, BasharSoft has long been at the forefront of Egypt’s digital recruitment transformation. The company has successfully connected over 9 million job seekers with 100,000+ employers, facilitating approximately 1.4 million hires. With this acquisition, BasharSoft solidifies its position as Egypt’s largest integrated employment and career services group, further advancing its expansion ambitions into Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the broader MENA region.

Founded in 2012 by Akram Marwan, iCareer has focused on bridging the persistent gap between education and employment by offering career coaching, soft-skill training, and digital tools tailored to enhance job readiness among young professionals. The inclusion of Recruitera into BasharSoft’s ecosystem is expected to amplify the company’s data-driven matching capabilities — improving efficiency and accuracy in talent acquisition for employers and job seekers alike.

The merger represents a powerful alignment of complementary strengths: BasharSoft’s vast digital infrastructure and iCareer’s educational partnerships create a holistic employment pipeline that spans from skill-building to job placement. Through iCareer’s established collaborations with universities and industry leaders, the new entity aims to empower the next generation of professionals with career readiness programs and accessible digital resources.

As Egypt and the GCC witness rapid changes driven by automation and artificial intelligence, BasharSoft’s integrated platform offers a timely response to evolving labor market needs. The company’s unified approach positions it as a critical enabler in workforce development and employment policy, working closely with governments, academic institutions, and private-sector organizations to promote future-ready human capital.

Looking forward, BasharSoft has outlined ambitious growth targets — including hiring 100 new employees, increasing revenues to $25 million, and pursuing additional acquisitions in the JobTech and HR technology sectors. Plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) within the next two to three years signal its confidence and growing influence as it strives to reach 100 million people by 2030.

Through this acquisition, BasharSoft is not merely expanding its business — it is reshaping how careers are developed, talent is matched, and opportunities are created across the Middle East and Africa.
