Spider-Man Star Tom Holland Hit With On-Set Injury, Production Halted

Actor Tom Holland, known for his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, was recently hospitalized after sustaining a mild concussion during a stunt mishap on the set of his upcoming film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." The incident occurred on Friday at Leavesden Studios in Watford, England, where the highly anticipated Marvel-Sony blockbuster is currently in production. Holland, 29, cracked his head in a fall and was transported by ambulance for treatment before being released. While initial reports suggested Holland was the only one injured, some outlets indicated that another person, believed to be a stuntwoman, also received treatment.
Following the accident, production on "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has been suspended. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studiosare assessing the situation, with a meeting scheduled to determine the path forward. Given the scale of the incident, the Health and Safety Executive in England may also launch an investigation.

Holland's father, comedian Dominic Holland, confirmed that his son would be away from filming for "a while," though Tom himself attended a charity dinner with co-star and fiancée Zendaya shortly after the incident, reportedly leaving early due to feeling unwell. Variety also confirmed Holland would take a precautionary break from filming, returning to set in a few days.
This production halt comes at a critical time for both Sony and Marvel Studios. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is Sony's biggest launch in some time, following the immense success of its predecessor, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021), which grossed $1.91 billion globally. For Marvel Studios, this film is the sole feature release before "Avengers: Doomsday" arrives in December 2026, making its timely completion crucial for the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
The film, Holland's fourth solo outing as Spider-Man, is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," taking over from Jon Watts who helmed the previous three installments. Production began in Glasgow in early August. The cast features returning Marvel stars such as Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Michael Mando reprising his role as The Scorpion from "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
Franchise regulars Zendaya (Michelle Jones) and Jacob Batalon are also returning. Newcomers to the cast include Sadie Sink ("Stranger Things"), Tramell Tillman ("Severance"), and Liza Colon-Zayas ("The Bear"). The studio has not yet indicated whether the July 31, 2026, release date will be affected by the production pause.
