South African Shockwaves: Hunt Intensifies for DJ Warras Murder Suspects

Johannesburg authorities and the African National Congress (ANC) are intensifying efforts to investigate the murder of Warrick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, who was fatally shot in the Johannesburg central business district on Tuesday.
Mgcini Tshwaku, Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety, confirmed that police have identified a woman as a person of interest in the case. This woman is believed to be a former tenant at the Zambesi building, where DJ Warras was killed, and is cited as a 'kingpin' who also featured in a protection order obtained by DJ Warras prior to his death. Tshwaku disclosed that DJ Warras had allegedly received threats from a committee, with some members stating they would 'see him in the bush' for attempting to remove them from the premises.
Law enforcement officers are working around the clock, with five people already taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. A manhunt for those responsible for the killing has been launched.
The ANC has urged the South African Police Service to treat DJ Warras's murder as a top priority, allocating all necessary resources to ensure swift arrests and a watertight prosecution. ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu highlighted DJ Warras's role as a vocal defender of the rule of law, who used his platform to challenge the illegal occupation and hijacking of buildings. She emphasized the importance of utilizing every available resource, including CCTV footage, to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Video footage under review reportedly shows the suspect approaching DJ Warras as he left Zambesi House shortly after noon on Tuesday, December 16, opening fire, and then attempting to flee the scene on foot. Despite these developments, no arrests have been made yet, and police are appealing to anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
