Shocking Revelation: Evangeline Lilly Discloses Brain Damage After Traumatic Fall

Actress Evangeline Lilly, known for her standout roles in Lost and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ant-Man films, has revealed that she suffers from brain damage following a concussion sustained last year after a fall onto a boulder. Recent brain scans indicate that "almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity," she shared via social media.
In an Instagram video, Lilly explained, "I’m entering into this new year, the Year of the Horse, with some bad news about my concussion," elaborating that her diagnosis involves widespread reduction in brain function. Despite the seriousness of the revelation, she emphasized her commitment to working closely with doctors to understand and address the issues: "My job is to get to the bottom of that with doctors and then embark on the hard work of fixing it," acknowledging the challenging path ahead.
In the caption of her post, Lilly wrote, "Verdict’s in… I do have brain damage from my traumatic brain injury." She found reassurance in knowing her cognitive decline is not solely related to peri-menopause, while recognizing the uphill battle to restore lost function. Lilly also reflected that her condition has encouraged her to slow down, allowing for a more restful end to 2025, and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and prayers from her followers.
Prior to this health update, Lilly made headlines last June when she announced an indefinite hiatus from acting. In a statement to Variety, she explained that she had been on a break for the past three years since completing work on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, describing this period as one that provided a grounding sense of fulfillment and joy.
Lilly’s career includes a Golden Globe–nominated performance as Kate Bishop in all six seasons of Lost, and her portrayal of Hope van Dyne/Wasp across several MCU films, including Ant-Man (2015), Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Quantumania (2023). She also played Tauriel in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit films, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies, showcasing her range across both television and blockbuster cinema.
Currently, Lilly is dedicating her time to humanitarian work and writing, pursuing a life path that she describes as replacing fear with fulfillment. While she has not ruled out a potential return to Hollywood, she is not actively seeking acting roles or bound by contractual obligations, instead finding purpose and a sense of belonging outside of the entertainment industry.
