Selena Gomez's Raw Confession: Why She 'Sobbed' After Marrying Benny Blanco

During her panel at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference in Washington, D.C., Selena Gomez candidly discussed her persistent fears despite achieving significant personal and professional success. The singer-actress revealed that she constantly anticipates negative events, a feeling she describes as “waiting for the other shoe to drop.” This anxiety extends across various aspects of her life, from her recent marriage to Benny Blanco to the flourishing billion-dollar Rare Beauty empire she has meticulously built.
Gomez elaborated on her personal coping mechanism, stating, “This is how I work personally, but something great happens in my life, I expect something bad to happen.” She continued, explaining that instead of fully immersing herself in positive moments, she finds herself perpetually wondering, “OK, but this could all go away tomorrow. How can I make sure that doesn’t happen?” She admitted that this internal conflict is her biggest struggle when wonderful things occur, citing her wedding as an example: “I got married and then I was sobbing, because I was like, ‘I’m gonna die the next day.’”
Despite these irrational fears, Gomez and Blanco are reportedly happy and healthy following their September nuptials, which saw famous friends like Taylor Swift in attendance. Shortly after the ceremony, Benny Blanco affectionately posted about his wife, calling her “a real life disney princess.” Furthermore, her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, continues to thrive. Forbes recently assessed the company, which is nearing its fifth anniversary, and confirmed its robust performance. August of 2025 was reportedly Rare Beauty’s best performing month, demonstrating double-digit year-over-year growth, signifying its ongoing success in the competitive beauty market.
