Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended residents for turning out to vote in the local government elections held across the state on Saturday.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to voters for what he described as a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

He acknowledged the diverse participation of youths, elders, market women, artisans, and professionals, noting that their conduct reflected the participatory spirit of the state.

“Your peaceful conduct, sense of responsibility, and turnout across polling units have once again demonstrated the true spirit of Lagos,” the governor said. He added that the electorate had shown how democracy can shape leadership when citizens engage in elections.

Sanwo-Olu also thanked security agencies, electoral officials, and the media for their role in managing the exercise. According to him, their professionalism contributed to the orderly nature of the process.

As the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) prepares to announce the official results, the governor urged candidates and political stakeholders to remain calm and adhere to the rule of law.

He described the election as “another bold step in strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots,” and encouraged residents to sustain what he called “the Spirit of Lagos” in future civic engagement.

Sanwo-Olu concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to building an inclusive and peaceful state.
