San Francisco DJ Habibeats Fights Stereotypes Through Music

DJ Habibeats, also known as Ibrahim Abu Ali, a Bay Area native, is spearheading a cultural movement by blending Middle Eastern sounds with diverse cultural mixes. Recently signed with Empire, he credits his San Francisco upbringing as the foundation for his creative path.
Habibi's House, meaning 'my love' in Arabic, is a gathering that welcomes everyone. DJ Habibeats aims to connect the sounds of the East with the diversity of the West, incorporating genres from Afrobeats to Latin rhythms.
Growing up in the U.S. post-9/11, Ibrahim felt the pressure of negative stereotypes. However, he believes the newer generation is awakening to a broader understanding of the Middle East. He noticed a shift where Middle Eastern culture and music were not considered cool during his childhood but are now becoming more engaging for people outside the culture.
Middle Eastern music has influenced mainstream pop hits like Jay Z's 'Big Pimpin' and Marc Anthony's 'Vivir La Vida.' DJ Habibeats aims to unite diverse communities through music, allowing often misunderstood cultures to feel included.
The most meaningful part of this journey, according to Ibrahim, is the recognition and representation he provides, making people feel seen and not like the odd one out. At Habibi's House, the beat is all about love.
