Sam Mendes' Beatles Biopic: Linda McCartney Casting Shakes Up Fab Four Fans!

Acclaimed Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has reportedly been cast as Linda McCartney in Sam Mendes’ ambitious project, “The Beatles – A Four Film Cinematic Event.” According to reports from Deadline, multiple sources confirm that Ronan, known for her celebrated roles in films such as “Ladybird” and “Little Women,” will embody Paul McCartney’s first wife in the forthcoming series of biopics. Representatives for the distributors, Sony Pictures, have yet to issue an official statement regarding the casting.
As previously announced, the unique cinematic event, directed by Sam Mendes, will comprise four distinct films, each dedicated to chronicling the story of a different member of the iconic band, The Beatles. Saoirse Ronan is expected to feature prominently in the installment centered on Paul McCartney, alongside Paul Mescal, who is slated to play the legendary singer. The extent of her involvement in the other three films currently remains undisclosed.
Ronan, a 31-year-old talent, boasts an illustrious career that includes four Oscar nominations. Her recent work includes the addiction-recovery drama “The Outrun” last year and leading the dark comedy “Bad Apples,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival just last month. She joins an already impressive ensemble cast, which reportedly includes Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.
The scripts for these highly anticipated films are being penned by a team of notable writers: Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne. The cinematic event is currently slated for release in the spring of 2028, though further official details are still scarce.
Linda McCartney, whom Paul McCartney met in 1967, was married to him until her passing from cancer in 1998. She was a multifaceted individual, recognized as a photographer, musician, and ardent animal rights activist. Linda also founded a vegetarian food company and performed alongside Paul as a member of his post-Beatles band, Wings.
Significantly, “The Beatles – A Four Film Cinematic Event” marks a historic milestone, as it is the first occasion that The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd. have granted authorization for the use of the band members’ life stories and music in scripted films. In related news, actress Anna Sawai, fresh off a SAG Award win for her breakout role in “Shōgun,” recently dismissed circulating rumors that she had been cast as Yoko Ono for the film series, stating, “I think a rumor is just a rumor,” and adding that she was still exploring her next projects.
