Sabrina Carpenter Delivers Powerful Tribute to Queer Community's Enduring Impact on Pop Music

In a revealing interview for the April 7 issue of Perfect, singer Sabrina Carpenter engaged with fashion mogul Marc Jacobs on the crucial role of the queer community in pop music. Carpenter passionately stated that pop music and many of its greatest stars owe their existence to the queer community. She expressed a deep personal connection, noting that many of her closest friends, collaborators, and artists are part of the LGBTQ+ community or are strong allies. Carpenter also shared that touring would not be as enjoyable without the community's presence, emphasizing her gratitude for their involvement in her journey.

Marc Jacobs, an openly gay man, resonated with Carpenter's sentiments, asserting that life is significantly more vibrant and enjoyable with the queer community, and it is vital to vocalize this, especially in the current climate. Carpenter's advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community is well-documented. Last year, through a partnership with the non-profit PLUS1, her efforts raised over $1 million for initiatives spanning mental health, LGBTQ+ rights, and animal welfare. This remarkable achievement led to The Sabrina Carpenter Fund becoming PLUS1's fastest-growing artist fund to date.

Beyond philanthropy, Carpenter has actively platformed LGBTQ+ artists in her creative work. In August, she featured openly queer Academy Award-winning actor Colman Domingo in her "Tears" music video. The video drew inspiration from the queer cult classic film *The Rocky Horror Picture Show*, with Domingo portraying Carpenter's drag mother. Following this, during her debut performance of the track at the VMAs, Carpenter shared the stage with drag artists and trans dancers who displayed powerful messages such as "Protect Trans Rights," "Support Local Drag," and "Dolls! Dolls! Dolls!" As Carpenter prepares to headline Coachella on Friday, April 8, there is anticipation that she might bring back some of these drag artists to her stage for what she has teased as "her most ambitious show ever."
