The soft launch of RwandAir’s offline office in Monrovia, spearheaded by Easy Continental Travel Agency, has been enthusiastically received as a “new dawn” for Liberia’s aviation, tourism, and business sectors. This strategic initiative is poised to significantly strengthen ties between Liberia and Rwanda, unlocking a wealth of new economic opportunities and fostering enhanced mobility across West and East Africa.

Madam Gbomai L. Bestman, President and CEO of Easy Continental Travel Agency, speaking at the August 16 launch at Monrovia City Hall, articulated a vision to expand Liberia’s aviation reach with purpose. She drew parallels between Rwanda and Liberia as two war-ravaged countries, emphasizing Rwanda’s impressive tourism earnings of over US$643 million last year as a model for Liberia to emulate. Madam Bestman also highlighted the immediate practical benefits, noting that the new air service would cater to the thousands of Liberian students (approximately 4,000) currently studying in Rwanda, ensuring reliable and affordable travel options for them and their families. She confidently stated that “RwandAir will fly here and will stay.”

The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) has lauded this development as a crucial turning point for the nation’s underutilized aviation industry. Deputy Director General Stephen R. Johnson pointed out the stark contrast between Africa’s 236 million travelers last year and Liberia’s modest figure of just over 100,000 passenger movements across its two ports. He stressed the immense untapped potential within Liberia’s aviation market, affirming that the entry of an additional airline, particularly one with RwandAir’s reputation, generates new opportunities, fosters connectivity, and strengthens bilateral ties between nations. The LCAA pledged its continued support for such initiatives.

Further underscoring the broad impact, Deputy Minister Kadiatu Konteh-Brohiri for Culture and Tourism at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, described RwandAir’s arrival as “the dawn of a new day for Liberia’s tourism sector.” She elaborated that the airline’s operation would cultivate stronger bonds and expand tourism opportunities, acting as a catalyst for business growth and enhancing Liberia’s appeal as an investment destination. Madam Konteh-Brohiri emphasized, “The more airlines come in, the closer we are to becoming a successful tourism nation. Tourism has no boundary,” while commending Easy Continental for their perseverance in making this breakthrough possible.

The Diaspora Office of the Ministry of State and Presidential Affairs also welcomed RwandAir’s launch, recognizing it as a significant achievement for Liberian citizens abroad, particularly students and families seeking affordable and reliable travel. Mr. Erasmus T. Williams, Coordinator of the Office, delivered a statement expressing readiness for a more direct and strategic partnership with Easy Continental Travel Agency to broaden travel opportunities for all Liberians in the Diaspora. Mr. Williams asserted that increased competition in the airline industry, brought about by RwandAir’s presence, would help reduce ticket costs and significantly boost air traffic to and from the country. The Diaspora Office plans to highlight this new airline service during upcoming major events, including the Liberia Diaspora Conference 2035 and the annual Diaspora Return Program in December, further amplifying Liberia’s role in diaspora engagement, business, and tourism. This move, as Mr. Williams put it, suggests that “The stars are lining up. Think Liberia, love Liberia, and together we can.”
