Ruben Amorim Defies All: 'Not Even The Pope' Can Sway Man Utd Coach From Controversial Tactics!

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim remains steadfast in his tactical beliefs, asserting that he will not change his 3-4-3 system, a stance he humorously declared even "not even the Pope" could alter. This commitment comes despite mounting pressure at Old Trafford following the club's worst start to a Premier League campaign in 33 years, having secured only four points from their opening four league games and suffering an exit from the Carabao Cup against League Two Grimsby.
Amorim recently met with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada, and director of football Jason Wilcox at Carrington. While United officials described the visit as pre-planned rather than an emergency summit, Amorim adopted a light-hearted tone when questioned about the discussions. He joked that Ratcliffe had offered him a new contract, before confirming it was a "normal thing to show the support" and that Ratcliffe reiterated it was a "long project." Amorim maintains that any evolution in his playing style will occur gradually and on his terms, emphasizing that a sudden change under pressure would send the wrong message to his players.
Beyond his tactical formation, Amorim revealed he is considering a change in goal. Altay Bayindir has started all four league games this season, but faces competition from deadline day signing Senne Lammens. Amorim insisted that no player's spot is guaranteed, stating, "Nobody has a place that is his place. Everyone has to fight... I'm just trying to win games. Trying to see what is the best option to win the next game." He indicated that the team on the pitch might look different by the end of the season as he seeks the best connections to improve performance and secure points.
Manchester United is set to host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday, aiming to recover from their recent derby defeat to Manchester City. The match will also mark the return of Alejandro Garnacho, who was allowed to leave for Stamford Bridge following a reported fall-out with Amorim after the Europa League final. Amorim, however, expressed no concern about Garnacho's return, stating his sole focus is on winning the game, regardless of who plays for the opposition.
