Dr. Afolashade Shona-Aluko, a distinguished business magnate, was recently honored with the revered title of Yeye Bobajiro Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. This prestigious recognition, conferred at the historic Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, acknowledges Dr. Shona-Aluko's profound philanthropic contributions and unwavering dedication to uplifting the less privileged members of society.

The elaborate installation ceremony, held last weekend, commenced with ancient traditional rites at Ile Nla, the venerable royal court situated within the palace grounds. As a vital part of her investiture, Dr. Shona-Aluko was reverently guided through several sacred locations within the palace, including Ile Moremi, Iya Moolu, and Ile Ase, where prayers and blessings were fervently offered to consecrate her new noble responsibilities. The culminating rites were officiated at Ile Nla by His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, supported by the esteemed Obalufe of Ile-Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, the Lowa Adimula, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, and a congregation of other high-ranking traditional chiefs, adding significant gravitas to the occasion.

Clad in elegant white attire and adorned with resplendent coral beads, Dr. Shona-Aluko participated in the colourful ceremony where she was decorated with sacred akoko leaves, presented with a symbolic royal horsetail, crowned with ceremonial beads, and formally handed a golden sword of authority. These emblems collectively symbolise strength, wisdom, and the weighty responsibilities inherent in her new chieftaincy title.

In his heartfelt address, the Ooni of Ife lauded Dr. Shona-Aluko as an embodiment of compassion and unwavering commitment to humanity. He remarked, “This distinguished woman has consistently demonstrated an exceptional devotion to the service of humanity. Her tireless efforts toward the welfare of the less privileged have not gone unnoticed. I have watched with admiration the compassion, generosity, and genuine love she extends to those in need.” The Ooni further emphasised that the honour was a direct recognition of her selfless service and positive societal impact, expressing his prayer that this title would inspire her to continue her commendable good works, with the lives she has positively impacted serving as true testaments to her kindness. He hailed her as a shining example of womanhood and leadership, invoking divine blessings upon her.

In her gracious response, Dr. Shona-Aluko conveyed her profound gratitude to the Ooni for the honour. She pledged her steadfast commitment to humanitarian causes, viewing the title as a renewed mandate to serve. She stated, “I want to sincerely thank my father, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, for finding me worthy of this great honour. I see this as a renewed call to serve, and I assure Kabiyesi that I will continue to dedicate myself to initiatives that promote unity, peace, and the empowerment of our people.”
