Rochdale Shooting Police Update on 'Life‑Changing' Injuries Amid Arson Probe

Police are investigating a serious shooting in Rochdale that left a 19-year-old man with severe leg injuries.

The incident happened around 3:20 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, on Beswicke Royds Street in the Belfield area.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire, finding the young man wounded and in urgent need of help.

A 19‑year‑old man was rushed to hospital with injuries so severe they’ll change his life but, thankfully, he is expected to survive.

Police sealed off the area around Beswicke Royds Street and nearby Reservoir Street as officers and forensic teams began carefully piecing together what happened.

Inside the cordon, onlookers could see a wrecked black car and scattered bits of debris, a stark reminder of just how violent the incident was.

A Facebook user snapped the photos of a white 4x4 vehicle up in flames, parked close to Watergrove Reservoir in Wardle this afternoon (March 5).

A fire engine can be seen in the photos with fire officers in attendance.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the vehicle is 'part of the investigation' into a shooting which took place on Beswick Royds Street in the Belfield area of the borough earlier today.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed that, so far, no arrests have been made, and they are asking the public for any information about the incident.

Superintendent Lucy Smallwood from Rochdale said officers arrived at the scene within minutes and are working hard to piece together what happened.

She described the event as a “targeted attack” and reassured the community that there is no ongoing danger.

Police will continue to maintain a visible presence in the area to keep people safe and reassured.
