Rly track caves in near Chaubepur village, train services disrupted

Kanpur: Following intense rainfall in the district, a railway track collapsed near Mariani village in Chaubepur, creating alarm amongst Kalindi Express passengers and necessitating an immediate halt.

The incident took place on Saturday, with railway authorities responding promptly to the situation.Railway personnel immediately reached the site, while repair operations continued to fix track functionality and restore normal train services. The situation was discovered at 9:15 am on Saturday when the Kalindi Express, enroute to Kanpur, was halted after trackmen notified senior officials about track subsidence.Railway engineer Vikas Kumar said that persistent rainfall near the Mariani underpass caused soil settlement alongside the track, resulting in its subsidence. "The railway staff then informed their senior officers, who in turn further flashed emergency messages to the control room. Subsequently, the Kalindi Express, which was heading towards Kanpur, was halted. Timely information helped avert a major accident," the official further said.

The railway administration initiated repairs straightaway. The disruption affected approximately twelve trains, with the Kalindi Express remaining stationary for 35 minutes. Following track repairs, the Kalindi Express proceeded, succeeded by a passenger and an express train. Vikas Kumar confirmed complete track restoration, noting that trains are proceeding cautiously at reduced speed.During this time, many passengers, who were overcome with panic, disembarked from the train and set off towards their destination by road.
