The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) appears to be gaining momentum shortly after its inception, according to statements from its leader.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is at the helm of the newly established party.
During an interview on the evening of Friday, May 16, Gachagua shared that the party was receiving substantial backing from its emerging support base, with members eager to contribute resources to sustain its activities.
He disclosed that nearly KSh 100 million had been raised through donations from both supporters and partners.
"DCP is a people's party. I am not going to fund it because I don't have those kinds of resources. It will be run by members. People already have large sums of money. As of last week, we were almost at KSh 100 million, and that was before the party was launched. We will shortly be rolling out our paybill number and bank accounts, including a dollar account for those in the diaspora," he said.
Gachagua urged his followers to take ownership of the party and actively support its growth. He announced plans for an official launch in June, encouraging further financial contributions to ensure the event's success.
He emphasised that the party would primarily be driven by young people, whom he sees as instrumental in ushering in reforms across the country.
Additionally, he noted that well-wishers had already donated vehicles to facilitate party operations, though he stressed the need for more resources to establish and equip offices effectively
