Revenge Served Cold: Conor Benn Dominates Eubank in Explosive Rematch!
Conor Benn achieved a career-defining victory on Saturday, securing dominant revenge over bitter rival Chris Eubank Jr. in a unanimous points decision. The non-title middleweight bout, which saw Benn improve his record to 24-1 (14 KOs), concluded with scores of 119-107, 116-110, and 118-108. Benn sealed the win dramatically by flooring Eubank (35-4, 25 KOs) twice in the final, twelfth round at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, captivating a crowd of over 60,000.
This victory was particularly sweet for the 29-year-old Benn, as it avenged a unanimous points defeat he suffered against Eubank Jr. seven months prior. The rivalry between the two fighters runs deep, echoing the epic world title fights contested by their fathers in the 1990s. Benn's win now evens the score between the families at 2-1-1, and he celebrated wildly, having achieved something his two-weight world champion father, Nigel Benn, failed to do – beat a Eubank.
Eubank Jr., 36, delivered a sluggish and subdued performance, lacking the energy, variation of punches, and explosiveness seen in their first encounter. Benn capitalized on this, stalking Eubank around the ring and landing the biggest punches consistently. After a slow first half, Benn became the aggressor, consistently outlanding Eubank. The climax came in the twelfth round when Benn first sent Eubank stumbling with a straight left to the jaw, following up with a barrage of blows before a right hand sent a wobbly Eubank down again. Despite beating the count, Eubank knew the fight was lost.
Emotionally, Benn stated he would probably "go home and cry" after the win, reflecting on his journey back from adversity and his first professional loss. He candidly discussed the immense struggles he faced, including failing two drug tests on the eve of their originally scheduled bout in 2022, which led to suicidal thoughts during the two years before he was cleared to fight in the UK again in 2024. Benn dedicated his triumph to his friends and family who provided unwavering support during those challenging times, emphasizing that he couldn't have carried the load alone.
Looking ahead, Benn declared the "Benn-Eubank saga" to be over and expressed no interest in a third fight, despite the current 1-1 record. He is now eyeing world title opportunities at junior middleweight and welterweight, naming potential opponents such as Lewis Crocker (IBF), Mario Barrios (WBC), Ryan Garcia, Roland Romero, and Devin Haney. For Chris Eubank Jr., this fourth career defeat is a significant blow to his aspirations for lucrative fights against top-tier opponents like Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Eubank acknowledged Benn was the better man on the night and hinted at personal issues he had been dealing with in recent months, stating he needs to go away and address them.
