Radiohead Rocks O2: Band Shatters Metallica's Historic Attendance Record!

Iconic U.K. band Radiohead has set a new historical precedent at London’s O2 Arena, breaking the venue’s attendance record previously held by Metallica in 2017. Following four triumphant, sold-out performances earlier this month, the Oxford-formed band demonstrated their enduring appeal. The shows took place on November 21, 22, 24, and 25, with each night drawing over 22,200 concert-goers. The final show on November 25 saw an impressive 22,355 attendees, as confirmed by the venue.
Christian D’Acuna, the O2’s senior programming director, expressed immense pride in the band's achievement. He stated, “These past four record-breaking nights will go down in the venue’s history, with Radiohead breaking the attendance records each night.” D’Acuna highlighted the special nature of these exclusive shows and thanked the band for bringing them to the O2, emphasizing that it was an honor to host them. He also noted that Radiohead delivered different set lists each night, spanning their extensive and incredible back catalogue, ensuring these performances would be remembered for years to come.
This landmark residency in London is part of Radiohead’s much-anticipated return to the stage after a seven-year absence from touring. The band officially launched their sold-out 20-date European tour on November 4 at Madrid’s Movistar Arena. The trek includes a series of stops across the U.K. and Europe, encompassing cities such as Madrid, Bologna, Copenhagen, and Berlin, in addition to their four-night stand in London. These performances mark Radiohead’s first live shows together since the summer of 2018, when they last played at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
Reflecting on their reunion, drummer Philip Selway shared insights into the band's renewed chemistry. In a press statement, Selway explained, “Last year, we got together to rehearse, just for the hell of it. After a seven-year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us.” The band's hiatus began after they concluded an extensive world tour supporting their critically acclaimed 2016 album, A Moon Shaped Pool. That album achieved significant success, becoming their sixth No. 1 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and earning them a headlining slot at Coachella in 2017.
