Queen of Global Tours: Shakira Claims Billboard Icon Award, Declares She's Just Warming Up!
Global superstar Shakira has added yet another milestone to her illustrious career, receiving the inaugural Billboard Global Touring Icon Award at the 2025 Billboard Live Music Summit in West Hollywood, California. The honor celebrates the extraordinary success of her record-breaking Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which has captivated audiences across continents and rewritten the benchmarks of Latin pop performance.
The award was presented by Marty Hom, Shakira’s longtime tour manager and industry veteran who has worked with legends such as Fleetwood Mac, Barbra Streisand, and The Rolling Stones. “As your longtime tour manager, I am so proud and truly honored to present the first annual Billboard Global Icon Tour Award to you,” Hom said, applauding Shakira’s relentless commitment to excellence and her tireless work ethic in delivering unforgettable live experiences for her fans.
Shakira learned of the honor backstage during rehearsals for her first Cali, Colombia concert in two decades, a deeply personal moment in her home country. She dedicated the award to her dancers, band, and crew, acknowledging their unwavering dedication: “Their hard work matches my own,” she said, expressing gratitude for the team that powers her global success.
Produced by Live Nation, the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour has been a staggering commercial and cultural triumph. According to Billboard Boxscore, the first 64 of 82 dates grossed an impressive $327.4 million, with 2.5 million tickets sold. This feat cements Shakira’s tour as the highest-grossing Latin tour ever by a woman, and the second-highest overall surpassed only by Luis Miguel’s 2023–24 tour, which brought in $409.5 million.
Adding to her historic run, Shakira performed a 12-night residency at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros (formerly Foro Sol), selling out all shows with an astounding 65,000 tickets per night, a total of 780,000 fans, according to OCESA, the event’s promoter. This record-setting engagement reaffirmed her standing as one of the most powerful live performers in the world today.
Reflecting on the achievement, Shakira told Hom: “It’s encouraging and inspiring. I never thought, not even in my wildest dreams, that I would fill every stadium. It’s incredible and motivating at the same time. I feel like I’m just starting my career, it’s crazy because it’s been 30 years! This has been the best tour of my life, just as we dreamt it. We worked hard, overcoming every obstacle, many long hours, to make everything as good as people deserve.”
During her time in Cali, Shakira also spoke candidly about balance and purpose: “I’m completely dedicated to my boys and my career. That’s all I need my boys, my fans, and my music. Creating fulfills a big part of my life right now.” With her tour setting new global standards and her passion burning brighter than ever, Shakira’s declaration that she’s “just getting started” feels less like modesty and more like a promise.
