President Tinubu announced a substantial increase in state allocations, empowering them for infrastructure development, while firmly rejecting ransom demands from terrorists responsible for the Oriire abductions. He also revealed plans to establish state police and expand the Nigerian Army's operational divisions, praising the armed forces for their successful rescue mission.
President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, received a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State, led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. The monarchs visited the President to convey their congratulations following the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers who had been abducted in the Oriire Local Government Area and spent 56 days in captivity.
During the meeting, President Tinubu addressed the delegation, which included former governors, emphasizing the significant increase in financial allocations to states. He stated that states now receive between four and five times their previous allocations from the Federation Account, which has considerably boosted their capacity to execute meaningful infrastructure projects. The President highlighted that, unlike in the past, no state is currently borrowing money to pay salaries, and pensioners are consistently receiving their entitlements.
President Tinubu urged state governments to leverage these increased funds more effectively, advocating for the construction of essential roads and artery networks to enhance the quality of life for citizens and improve accessibility for security agencies to penetrate remote areas. He advised against building
