Tinubu Approves N15 Billion Grant and New Campus for Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus for the Nigeria Police Academy (NPA) in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a N15 billion special take-off grant.

The funds will be drawn from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)'s 2026 allocation and are earmarked for infrastructure, student accommodation, and core training assets. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga made the announcement formally.

The approval fulfils provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, which mandates expansion of the existing Wudil, Kano campus into multiple national campuses.

The site selection followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Ministers of Police Affairs and Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Factors considered included student intake capacity, funding sustainability, and the long-term recruitment needs of the Nigeria Police Force.

Tinubu also reconstituted the 16-member governing council for the existing Wudil campus. Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Geidam has been named council chairman, with representation drawn from all six geopolitical zones and relevant federal ministries including Finance, Education, and Justice.

The president's office has described the expansion as a strategic investment in policing education and national security, with more details available through the State House press release portal.
