Porsche 911 Carrera S Shifts Back: Manual Transmission Makes Triumphant Return!

Defying a prevailing industry trend where manual transmissions are steadily being phased out, Porsche has announced the reintroduction of a three-pedal, stick-shift option for the 2027 911 Carrera S. Revealed during Monterey Car Week, this move is a significant nod to driving enthusiasts. More than just a standalone transmission choice, Porsche is offering this manual as part of an exclusive “MT Package” that bundles it with a comprehensive list of performance and aesthetic enhancements, promising a more involved and engaging driving experience.

The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with the MT Package will exclusively feature rear-wheel drive and utilize the same manual transmission found in the 911 Carrera T. This package significantly elevates the car’s performance credentials by including a host of standard hardware. Key performance upgrades comprise rear-axle steering for enhanced agility, the acclaimed Sport Chrono Package, a uniquely tuned exhaust system, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport, which lowers the vehicle by 0.4 inches for a more aggressive stance and improved handling.

Further enhancing its performance and visual appeal, the MT Package adds a Sport Design front fascia and, for the first time on a Carrera S, center-lock wheels. These specialized wheels are not merely a visual upgrade; they contribute to a significant weight reduction of over 17 pounds compared to the standard Carrera S units. Despite the extensive additional equipment, the 911 Carrera S Coupe with the MT Package maintains an impressive weight profile, weighing only 11 pounds more than a Carrera T Coupe. Braking performance is also substantially improved with larger brakes: six-piston calipers gripping 16.1-inch discs at the front, and four-piston calipers paired with 15-inch discs at the rear. For ultimate stopping power, Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes are available as an option, a feature not offered on the Carrera T.

Inside the cabin, the manual transmission provides a traditional sports-car ambiance with a distinctive walnut shift knob. A graphic depicting a manual shift pattern is integrated into the dashboard, while four-way sport seats ensure driver and passenger comfort and support. Exterior distinguishing features include titanium exhaust outlets and a prominent red S badge at the rear, subtly signaling the car’s unique configuration.

As expected from Porsche, customization possibilities are extensive. Buyers can select from more than 17 exterior colors, with additional options like Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus, offering access to dozens of unique hues through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. An available exterior package further enhances the car’s presence, adding HD Matrix Design headlights with elegant white accent rings, Ceramica-finished wheels, and body-color mirror housings. A unique touch includes puddle lights that can project the manual shift-pattern graphic onto the ground.

Interior personalization continues with an available package that introduces plaid Sport-Tex seat centers with white stripes, white seat belts and stitching, and trim pieces finished in Ceramica. Even the Sport Chrono clock receives a matching white accent ring to complement the headlights. While enthusiasts might prefer a standalone manual option, the MT Package delivers a curated collection of desirable features at an approximate five percent discount compared to adding similar options to a PDK automatic model, alongside several exclusive items.

Porsche will commence deliveries of the 2027 911 Carrera S with the MT Package by the end of 2026. Pricing for this highly anticipated model starts at $169,450 for the coupe and $183,350 for the convertible.
