Pop Star Charli XCX Hilariously Responds to Dave Grohl's Viral 'Apple' Dance

Charli XCX recently shared her thoughts on Dave Grohl’s widely circulated “Apple” dance during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, an episode that also featured a performance by the Foo Fighters. During the show, host Graham Norton presented a clip showcasing Grohl and his daughter Harper performing a choreographed dance to Charli XCX’s track “Apple,” a video that gained significant traction in 2024. In the footage, Harper guided a seated Grohl through the dance moves. Upon seeing the clip for the first time, Charli XCX described Grohl’s unique style as abstract yet effective, remarking, “You’re taking like an abstract approach, and that’s cool.” Grohl, in response to Norton’s inquiry about whether Foo Fighters typically incorporate dance into their stage routine, confirmed, “We don’t,” acknowledging the unusual nature of his viral moves.
Later in the episode, the Foo Fighters delivered a performance of “Your Favorite Toy,” the lead single and title track from their upcoming 12th studio album, which is scheduled for release on April 24. For this performance, Jason Falkner stepped in on guitar, as Pat Smear was absent due to a broken foot. Grohl explained that Smear’s injury was the result of a gardening accident. Despite his absence, Smear was visually represented during the band’s set by an image of his face displayed on the kick drum. The performance was further enhanced by backing vocals from Jake Shears and Babydaddy, members of the Scissor Sisters.
During his interview segment, Dave Grohl offered insights into the Foo Fighters’ remarkable longevity, which spans three decades, and how their collective journey has influenced their music. “We’ve been a band for 30 years now, right? And so we’ve all grown together, and we’ve all been through life together, ups and downs,” he reflected, emphasizing that their bond extends beyond mere musical collaboration, stating, “Honestly, it’s more than a musical thing.” Grohl further elaborated that the band’s creative direction for new material is intrinsically linked to their current personal stages in life. He humorously characterized the group as having become “a bunch of grumpy old men.” He concluded his reflection with a lighthearted scream, noting, “You’d imagine that as you get a bit older, that things sort of soften … It doesn’t. It’s kinda like that now. That’s where we’re at now.” The forthcoming album, “Your Favorite Toy,” also marks a significant milestone as it is the first Foo Fighters album to feature Ilan Rubin as the band’s drummer.
