Political Tensions Flare: APC Urges Calm Amid Wike-Fubara Clash in Rivers

Hon. Innocent Ajaelu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth leader for the Rivers South-East senatorial district and a former chairman of the Oyigbo local government area in Rivers State, has strongly urged all individuals who capitalized on the past political dispute between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, to now embrace and facilitate lasting peace within the state.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, Ajaelu asserted that peace has indeed returned to Rivers State. He emphasized the paramount importance of prioritizing the state's welfare above individual interests, stating, “For me, there is peace in Rivers State. Above all, any other person, no matter who you are, president, governor, minister, follower; if you don’t put Rivers State first, there is nothing you are doing.” He further highlighted that a state embroiled in “quagmires” cannot achieve development, underscoring the direct correlation between peace, progress, and tranquility.
Ajaelu directly appealed to those who financially or otherwise benefited from the earlier crisis to cease their actions, stressing that the two primary figures involved, Governor Fubara and Chief Wike, have already reached an agreement and made peace. He noted with satisfaction that “Peace has come and all the democratic settings in Rivers State have returned and are functioning optimally.”
Furthermore, the APC youth leader directed a specific plea to non-politicians, advising them to refrain from involving themselves in political matters concerning the state's gladiators. He reasoned that these individuals were not privy to the negotiations and “deals” struck by the politicians, and therefore should not base their understanding solely on media reports. “Whatever they see in the media, they shouldn’t take it that way,” Ajaelu cautioned.
Reiterating his conviction that harmony prevails, Ajaelu concluded by urging all followers of both A and B (referring to the two principal political figures) to reconcile and align with the terms that their leaders, described as “the father and son,” have already agreed upon. This, he believes, will solidify the newfound peace and foster collective development in Rivers State.
