Political Earthquake in Adamawa as Governor Fintiri Defection Triggers Mass Exodus to APC

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, ending weeks of speculation.

Announcing the move from Government House, Yola, Fintiri cited extensive consultations and the best interests of the state as his motivation.

Emphasizing alignment with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu to secure increased support and accelerate development projects.

He framed the defection as a strategic step to advance the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and ensure long-term stability and growth for Adamawa.

Fintiri’s defection triggered a cascading political shift across the state.

The entire Adamawa PDP State Executive Committee, including Chairman Alhaji Hamza Bello Madagali, along with 22 Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), resigned from the party to join the APC, aligning fully with the Governor’s agenda.

Earlier, 15 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, including Speaker Bathiya Wesley, also left the PDP, citing internal crises, which shifted the 25-member legislature’s balance in favor of the APC.

This coordinated transition reflects a sweeping consolidation of executive and legislative support behind Fintiri’s new political alignment, though constitutional provisions require lawmakers who defect to vacate their seats unless justified by demonstrable reasons.
