PM Modi's Visit to 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a four-day visit to Brazil, commencing on July 5, 2025, during which he is set to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit and undertake a pivotal state visit. Upon his arrival at Galeao International Airport in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening (local time), **PM Modi** was accorded a ceremonial welcome, marking the fourth leg of his extensive five-nation tour at the invitation of **Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva**.

The **17th BRICS Summit** is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro on July 6 and 7, 2025. Notably, the summit will proceed without the presence of **Chinese President Xi Jinping** and **Russian leader Vladimir Putin**, yet it boasts a comprehensive agenda. BRICS, originally comprising **Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa**, has expanded to include **Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE**, solidifying its position as one of the most influential alliances of emerging economies globally.

**PM Modi** expressed his commitment to the BRICS partnership, highlighting India’s role as a founding member and its dedication to the bloc as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies. He stated that collectively, they strive for a more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic, and balanced multipolar world order. Through his social media platform X, **PM Modi** conveyed his anticipation for productive meetings and interactions, acknowledging the vibrant welcome received from the Indian community in Rio de Janeiro.

Following the summit, **PM Modi** will travel to Brasilia for the state visit, a historically significant event as it marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brazil in nearly six decades. In Brasilia, he is slated to hold extensive bilateral discussions with **President Lula da Silva**. These talks aim to broaden the strategic partnership between the two nations, covering crucial areas of mutual interest such as trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people linkages.

This visit to Brazil is an integral part of **PM Modi**’s broader five-nation tour. Prior to Brazil, he visited Ghana from July 2-3, where he addressed the country’s Parliament. From July 3-4, he travelled to Trinidad and Tobago, meeting with **President Christine Carla Kangaloo** and **Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar**. His preceding stop was Argentina, where he engaged in wide-ranging talks with **President Javier Milei**, agreeing to diversify two-way trade and enhance cooperation in defence, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, energy, and mining sectors. This Argentine visit was also a historic one, being the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 57 years. The final destination of his five-nation tour will be Namibia.
