Modi Arrives at 17th BRICS Summit, Meets Brazil President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, where he received a warm welcome from the Indian community and engaged with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Upon his arrival, PM Modi expressed gratitude to President Lula for hosting the summit, emphasizing BRICS' role as a powerful force for economic cooperation and global good. His sentiments were shared on social media, where he noted his amazement at the Indian diaspora's enduring connection to Indian culture and their passion for India's development.

The vibrant welcome from the Indian community in Rio de Janeiro included a musical performance of traditional prayer songs and a traditional dance performance centered on the theme of 'Operation Sindoor'. This operation was described as a calibrated military response to evolving asymmetric warfare, specifically targeting unarmed civilians and military personnel, a shift highlighted by a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025.

During the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit, scheduled for July 6-7, Prime Minister Modi is set to exchange views on a range of crucial global issues. These topics include peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, the responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and various economic and financial matters. Following the summit, PM Modi is also expected to visit Brazil's capital, Brasilia, for a state visit at President Lula's invitation, hoping for productive meetings and interactions. Brazil marks the fourth country in his broader five-nation visit.
