Otumfuo Osei Tutu College of Health not accredited to operate as a tertiary - GTEC warns
Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has warned public against unaccredited institutions
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned the public against enrolling in or pursuing health-related academic programs at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu College of Health due to its unaccredited status.
In a statement dated Thursday, June 26, 2025, and signed by the Commission’s Deputy Director-General, Prof Augustine Ocloo, the Commission stated that the health college is not accredited to operate as a tertiary institution nor is it accredited to offer academic programmes in health in the country.
“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to inform the general public that the Otumfour Osei Tutu College of Health, located in Kumasi near the Tafo Government Hospital, is not accredited to operate as a tertiary institution or to offer any health-related academic programmes in Ghana,” portions of the statement posted on its official Facebook page read.
GTEC also stated that diplomas, degrees, and any other certificates being issued by the institution are not legally recognised.
It added that individuals awarded such certificates could face serious challenges when seeking employment, furthering their education or pursuing professional licensing.
“Consequently, any certificates, diplomas, or degrees awarded by this institution are not recognised for purposes of employment, further education, or professional licensing-either in Ghana or internationally,” the statement continued.
GTEC highlighted some consequences of enrolling in or pursuing programmes at unaccredited institutions including financial loss.
It cautioned Ghanaians to always verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling to avoid such repercussions.
“GTEC strongly advises students, parents, guardians, and the public to verify the accreditation status of institutions and their academic programmes through the Commission or other relevant national regulatory bodies before seeking admission.”
It concluded, “Enrolling in unaccredited institutions may result in significant loss of time, financial resources, and future professional opportunities. This notice is issued to protect the public from misinformation and potential exploitation.”
GTEC's statement aligns with its commitment to clamp down on unaccredited institutions and the misuse of academic titles in the country.
