The Zambia Police Service in Northern Province has initiated comprehensive investigations into a serious incident involving Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Malicious Damage to Property. This alarming event took place on June 25, 2026, at approximately 16:00 hours, at Mundubile Lodge. The lodge is situated in Village Kaliminwa, within Chief Mumporokoso’s area in Mporokoso District, and is notably owned by aspiring Presidential Candidate Brian Mundubile.

The incident was officially reported to the police by two individuals, Kelvin Chongo, aged 25, from Village Mpala, and Brando Kangwa, aged 37, from Village Kaliminwa. Both complainants are employed as bricklayers at the recently constructed Mundubile Lodge. According to preliminary police findings, Chongo and Kangwa had reported for work at the lodge at around 07:00 hours on the day of the incident.

Later that afternoon, at approximately 16:00 hours, a Fuso truck, whose registration number remains unknown, reportedly arrived outside the lodge premises. The vehicle was observed to be carrying a significant number of male persons. It is alleged that a group of youths disembarked from the truck and proceeded to paint initials associated with the ruling political party onto the exterior wall fence of the lodge property.

When Kelvin Chongo and Brando Kangwa attempted to intervene and stop the individuals from carrying out this act, the group reportedly became violent. The youths are accused of physically assaulting the two bricklayers using a hammer, stones, and their bare hands. As a result of this attack, Kelvin Chongo sustained injuries including bruised fingers on his right hand, bruised lips, and injuries to his left knee. Brando Kangwa reported experiencing pain on the left side of his face following the assault.

In addition to the assault, the same group of alleged perpetrators is further accused of causing malicious damage to property. They are said to have damaged several glass panes of a guard room located at the entrance of Mundubile Lodge. The estimated value of the damaged property is yet to be determined and established by the ongoing police investigation.

Following the report, police officers were promptly dispatched to the scene. They meticulously documented the damage and circumstances, subsequently opening a formal docket of inquiry to facilitate detailed investigations. Medical report forms have been issued to both victims, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this criminal act.

The Zambia Police Service has issued a strong condemnation of all acts of violence, political intolerance, criminality, and destruction of property. The service emphasized that such conduct will not be tolerated, irrespective of the individuals, groups, or political affiliations involved, reiterating that the law applies equally to all citizens and no one is above it.

Mr. Simunji Mulonda, the Commanding Officer for Northern Division, conveyed a stern warning to all individuals and groups. He cautioned against contemplating or engaging in acts of violence, intimidation, vandalism, or any other form of lawlessness within the province, stating that the Zambia Police Service will not tolerate such behavior. Mulonda affirmed that anyone found participating in criminal activities will be dealt with firmly and in strict accordance with the law.

Members of the public are urged to resolve disputes through lawful means and to cooperate with the police by providing any information that may assist in the investigations into this matter. The police have underscored their commitment to bringing those responsible for the assault and property damage to justice, confirming that efforts to identify and prosecute all perpetrators have already commenced and will continue until successful. The Zambia Police Service remains dedicated to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that peace prevails throughout the Northern Province.
