Off Campus Showrunner Explains Mid-Season Twist as Prime Video Confirms Expanded Universe and Season 2 Plans
The Prime Video series "Off Campus" kicks off with its first season, adapting Elle Kennedy's beloved romance novels. Showrunner Louisa Levy discusses the careful process of bringing the story of Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells to life, including the crucial decision to depict their traumas as journeys of survival and the strategic introduction of future character storylines.
Prime Video’s new series Off Campus, adapted from Elle Kennedy’s bestselling romance novels, has launched with strong attention around its first season. The show follows four hockey players at the fictional Briar University, with Season 1 focusing on The Deal and the relationship between Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells.
Their arrangement, initially built on a fake dating agreement and academic tutoring, gradually evolves into a genuine romantic connection. Showrunner Louisa Levy explained that the adaptation aims to remain faithful to the emotional core of Kennedy’s novels while reshaping them for television.
She noted that the author is actively involved in production and reviews all episodes to ensure alignment with the original vision. Levy also emphasized the challenge of translating internal monologues into visual storytelling while preserving the depth that defines the books.
A key creative decision involved incorporating sensitive backstories, including trauma experienced by the main characters, while ensuring they are not graphically depicted on screen. Instead, the focus remains on their healing journeys and emotional connection as survivors.
Levy also confirmed that storylines from later books were introduced earlier to strengthen the season finale and set up future arcs. She added that Season 2 has already been greenlit, with scripts completed and production preparations underway as the series expands its wider Briar universe.
