Oasis Reunion Frenzy: UK Watchdog Threatens Ticketmaster as Andy Bell Confirms Line-up

Oasis, the iconic British rock band, has confirmed its highly anticipated reunion tour for 2025, marking a significant event for fans worldwide. The tour, set to span 41 dates across multiple continents, will kick off in July in the UK and Ireland. Among the confirmed dates are three sold-out shows at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on August 8, 9, and 12.
Bassist Andy Bell, a long-standing collaborator who played with Oasis from 1999 to 2009 and later with Liam Gallagher’s post-Oasis project Beady Eye, has officially confirmed his involvement. In an interview with Austrian newspaper Oe24, Bell stated, “I’m in and I’m really looking forward to it. We’ll see each other on tour.” His extensive history with the Gallagher brothers is seen as ideal for navigating any potential tensions. Bell is expected to be joined by other long-time collaborators, including his Beady Eye bandmate Gem Archer, Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs on guitar, and drummer Joey Waronker. Support for the tour will come from notable acts such as Cast, Richard Ashcroft, Cage The Elephant, and Ball Park Music.
The demand for tickets was unprecedented, with 10 million people from over 100 countries attempting to purchase them, leading to a record-breaking sell-out. However, the success of the ticket sales was overshadowed by significant controversy. The UK competition watchdog, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), has threatened legal action against Ticketmaster for what it describes as “misleading” methods used during the sale of Oasis reunion tour tickets.
The CMA launched an investigation following thousands of complaints from fans who felt they were overcharged. Among the key concerns, Ticketmaster allegedly mislabeled certain seated tickets as ‘platinum,’ selling them for up to 2.5 times the price of equivalent standard tickets without adequately explaining that they offered no additional benefits and were often located in the same stadium areas. This practice, according to the CMA, misled customers into believing platinum tickets were superior. Furthermore, Ticketmaster is accused of breaking the law by not informing consumers about the existence of two different price categories for standing tickets, with all cheaper tickets being sold first before the more expensive ones were released, leaving fans waiting without understanding the pricing structure.
Fans reported paying over £350 for tickets with an initial face value of £150. In response to the outcry, Oasis issued a statement clarifying that decisions on ticketing and pricing are left entirely to their promoters and management. The band explicitly stated they were “not aware” that dynamic pricing would be used. While initial meetings between promoters, Ticketmaster, and management aimed for a “positive ticket sale strategy” including dynamic ticketing to keep general prices down and reduce touting, the band acknowledged that “the execution of the plan failed to meet expectations” due to unprecedented demand.
Despite the controversies, the tour is confirmed to be a monumental event. Oasis manager Alec McKinlay has definitively ruled out any new material from the band and has also put an end to rumors of additional tour dates. He stated, “This is very much the last time around, as Noel’s made clear in the press. It’s a chance for fans who haven’t seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to.” McKinlay also debunked previous social media claims by Liam Gallagher about a new album, confirming, “No, there’s no plan for any new music.” McKinlay also detailed how the comeback tour news was kept under wraps, relying on a limited group of trusted individuals, and described the phenomenal reaction as “Finally, some good news after all the nonsense that’s been going on in the world.”
